Zine

Zine

Description.

More Than Words is a zine that explores icons as a universal visual language—one that communicates across cultures, languages, and geographic boundaries. In a world where written and spoken language can create barriers, icons serve as intuitive symbols that allow people to connect, navigate, and understand one another without words.

  • This project examines how icons function as an unspoken form of communication and why they are essential in contemporary design. Through research, visual examples, and experimentation, the zine breaks down how meaning is constructed visually and how symbols can be understood globally while still being shaped by cultural context.

As part of this project, we developed a foundational framework for teaching visual language in design education. The zine establishes why icon literacy is important and demonstrates how designers can be taught to create clear, inclusive, and effective visual systems. More Than Words positions icons not just as design elements, but as tools for accessibility, connection, and shared understanding—proving that communication can extend far beyond text.
